What is the peculiarity of the spiritual weapon of a Christian?

“The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God to destroy strongholds” (2 Cor 10.4).

 

 

What can be defeated with this weapon?

“By them we cast down thoughts and every lofty thing that rises up against the knowledge of God, and we bring captive every thought to the obedience of Christ” (v.4-5).

 

 

What are we to put on?

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil“ (Eph 6.11).

 

 

What forces are we going to fight against?

“Because our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against authorities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spirits of wickedness in high places” (v.12).

Note. The expression "spirits of wickedness in the heavenly places" is more precisely: "the evil spirits that dwelt in heaven".

“Stand therefore, girding your loins with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness” (v.14).

Note. In 1 Thess 5.8 the helmet is called "the hope of salvation". A helmet was worn to protect the head. So the hope of salvation will help a Christian to maintain courage and spiritual life in a moment of danger, when the enemies of the truth rise up against him.

 

 

What is the sword of a Christian warrior?

“The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God“ (ibid.).

Note. With this sword Christ defeated the enemy (Matt 4.1-11, Luke 4.1-13). But one who does not know the word will not be able to use this sword. Therefore, the Bible teaches the importance of researching and knowing the word of God.
