PSALM #4
4Stand in awe,
and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
5Offer the
sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
7Thou hast put
gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine
increased.
8I will both
lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in
safety.
As you understand, this psalm was written by
David. There are 150 psalms, he wrote about half of them.
The theme of the psalm is relationship with
God. It talks about turning to God when it's hard for us (but I think when it's
good for us, this is also necessary), and about the problems of this world, and
about the fact that God has a special people and how he should behave, about
God's blessings and how He answers prayers, and finally, that we can be at
peace because we have a God who is so strong and kind.
We learn from the first verse that this is
a song that the singers sang along with the musicians in the temple. In the
ancient world and in ancient Israel there were many different musical
instruments (they are mentioned in the Psalter), but, to our regret, we don’t
even know about some of them what they looked like.
Further after this, it is said about
turning to God in difficult times, and also that He has already helped in the
past. Then a call to society to be aware and think well what scale of values
they have, and if it is wrong, it is necessary to change it and put God in the
first place - only He and His word are the main authority for us.
God chose a group of people and made them
His people. I think they did not choose Him, but He took the first steps, as it
was, for example, in Egypt. The people of Israel, to whom not only an Israeli
can join, but any person according to his choice. And always in prayer they
call on God, and He answers. Maybe not the way we want (that would be a
tragedy). In one Russian fairy tale, a girl had a magic flower, and she asked
him to have all the toys in the world be hers. Imagine what happened when tons
of toys came to her. They also say this: if God wanted to punish people, he
would fulfill all their desires.
A special people should behave in a special
way. We all get angry sometimes (within ourselves), but it is said that we
should not sin while doing so. Although anger is natural when it comes to
something bad, the main principle is this: we must manage our anger, not it us.
And one more thing: what is very important
is that we should meditate and pray, seek what God thinks is right. And one
more thing: all the sacrifices and rituals in the temple are important, but
even more important are the right actions and a heart dedicated to God.
Throughout the history of the world, God
has treated people with love and patience, despite the fact that not only did
they not keep His commandments, but, moreover, they did not want to know Him
Himself. And the same thing is happening today. He loves NOT to punish, but to
bless His children in every possible way. But even in a sinful society, anyone
who wants to can receive these blessings, they are next to us, you just need to
take them. How? Read what is written, how we should relate to God and what to
do, fulfill and be happy.
God gives people a lot of joy. This does
not mean that a believer always has an easy life. But our ATTITUDE to things
and to what happens depends on faith. We, believers, sometimes consider things
that people of this world consider bad and difficult (sickness, suffering), as
a blessing. We do not always understand why this happens to us, but in such
cases we need to be patient.
And the last thing: the peace of God in the
soul is not only going to bed every night without problems and pressure, it is
something much more: not being afraid, always knowing that everything that we
have was given to us as a gift by our Heavenly Father, who is also ours.

for us, and our trials are not unbearable. He has prepared a new world for us,
and anyone who wants to enter this world can enter. And in the Bible, in the
simplest terms, there is an explanation of how.
May God help us to be with Him all the time, both now and in the future perfect world.
