WE HAVE NO
REASON FOR ATHEISM AND DOUBT IN THE TRUTH OF THE WORD OF GOD. Doubt is a
traitor, as Shakespeare said.
What
inevitably leads to apostasy from God?
“Be
careful, brethren, that there be no evil or unbelieving heart in any of you,
lest you depart from the living God” (Heb 3.12).
How did the stubborn apostasy of the inhabitants of Jerusalem manifest itself?
“Why is
this people, Jerusalem, in stubborn apostasy? they hold fast to deceit and do
not want to be converted. I watched and listened: they do not speak the truth,
no one repents of their wickedness, no one says: “What have I done?” ; each
turns to his own way, like a horse rushing into battle” (Jer 8.5-6).
What is one of the hallmarks of apostasy?
“Since the
days of your fathers, you have departed from my ordinances and have not kept
them; Turn to Me, and I will turn to you, says the Lord of hosts. You say, “How
can we apply?“ “ (Mal 3.7).
What neglected ordinance does God refer to?
“Her priests
break My law and defile the shrines of Mom, do not separate the holy from the
unholy and do not distinguish between the pure and the unclean, and from My
Sabbaths they closed their eyes, and I am humbled by them” (Ezek 22.26).
What else does God charge?
“Can a
person rob God? And you are robbing me. You will say: "What are we
stealing from you?" Tithes and offerings” (Mal 3.8).
What does God recommend to do?
“Bring all
the tithes to the house of storage, so that there will be food in My house, and
although in this test Me, says the Lord of hosts: will I not open for you the
openings of heaven and pour out blessings on you to excess?” (v.10).
What did
some of Christ's disciples do when they did not understand His clear teaching?
“From that
time on, many of His disciples departed from Him and no longer walked with Him”
(John 6.66).
On what
condition does God promise to show His abundant mercy to sinners?
“Let the
wicked leave his way, and the wicked leave his thoughts, and turn to the Lord,
and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He is much merciful” (Is
55.7).
Why must
the wicked change their way of thinking and their ways in order to be saved?
“My
thoughts are not your thoughts, nor your ways are My ways, says the Lord” (v.8).
Note. God
wants us to think the way He does, to think about what is true, pure, and
eternal. And He wants us to take His ways, sweet ways, and walk in His path,
the path of the world.
What is
especially necessary to do in order not to depart from the faith?
“Watch and
pray, lest you enter into temptation: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is
weak” (Mark 14.38).
To what are
believers called?
“Test
yourselves, are you in the faith? explore yourself. Or do you not know
yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? Are you not what you should be” (2 Cor
13.5).
What will a
person avoid if the Law of God is in his heart?
“The law of
his God is in his heart; his steps shall not be shaken” (Ps 37:31).
What does
God do when an apostate repents?
“Take prayer
words with you and turn to the Lord; say to Him: Take away all iniquity and
accept it for good, and we will offer the sacrifice of our mouth... I will heal
their backsliding, I will love them according to good pleasure; for my anger is
turned away from them” (Os 14.3-5).
Will the
danger of apostasy increase in the last days?
“And
because of the increase of iniquity, the love of many will grow cold” (Matt 24.12).
What
end-time vices are we specifically warned against?
“Take care
of yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with overeating and drunkenness
and worldly cares, and lest that day come upon you suddenly” (Luke 21.34).
What are we
called to do in view of the dangers that lie in wait for you?
“Therefore, watch at all times and pray that you may be able to avoid all these future disasters and stand before the Son of Man” (v.36).
